Colours of spring

Early May brings the return of plant life. Buds are now starting to open on the leafy trees along the Hidden Lake trail in Whitehorse.

This tree damage is caused by freezing and thawing of the sap. It looks like the trees exploded from within.

Thanksgiving dinner in the wild

DSC_0264It’s fall time and there should be snow by now. Animals like this squirrel are fattening up for the winter.

This one was seen eating pinecones on the Long Lake trails outside of Whitehorse.

 

Return to Whitehorse: Fall colours everywhere

The fall colours are resplendent.

 

Wild berries not for eating

DSC_0056Berries like these can be tempting for hikers, but be careful: A lot of Yukon’s berries are poisonous.

Unless you have land skills, don’t eat anything.
